AI in education has moved beyond the question of whether students will use it. The harder questions are now about assessment, teacher judgment, procurement, curriculum design and what learners understand after the chatbot has answered.
Europe's 2027 calendar gives you four very different rooms in which to examine those questions. I would not choose the largest audience automatically; I would choose the event where people are working on the educational decision you need to make next.
1. EdTech Congress Barcelona 2027: test what schools can actually adopt
3–4 FEBRUARY 2027 | BARCELONA, SPAIN
EdTech Congress Barcelona is the commercial and implementation-focused event on this list. Its previous edition brought together education professionals, public administrations, corporate training specialists and technology companies around subjects including responsible AI, intelligent assessment, personalised learning, hybrid classrooms and accessibility.
I would send school leaders, digital-learning directors and procurement teams with a real workflow to investigate. Ask vendors what student data their product needs, how teachers can challenge an automated recommendation and what happens when connectivity, licensing or staff capacity is weaker than the demonstration assumes.
EdTech founders should treat Barcelona as a place to learn how institutions buy, not simply as a stage for another AI tutor. A product may generate excellent explanations and still fail because it does not fit safeguarding rules, assessment policy or the daily workload of teachers.
If you want to compare this trip with the city's wider technology calendar, read my guide to top AI events in Spain for 2027. Barcelona is the strongest option here when implementation, suppliers and institutional adoption matter more than publishing a research paper.

2. IEEE EDUCON 2027: engineering education under technical pressure
6–9 APRIL 2027 | TIMIȘOARA, ROMANIA
IEEE EDUCON is the research-led choice for people working in engineering and technology education. The conference connects academic, research and industrial perspectives, while accepted peer-reviewed papers are published in the proceedings and submitted to IEEE Xplore.
That makes EDUCON a better fit than Barcelona for engineering faculty, instructional designers and researchers evaluating how generative AI changes laboratories, coursework and assessment. Bring evidence from a course or pilot, including the result that did not fit your original hypothesis; methodological criticism will be more valuable than broad enthusiasm.
Industry learning teams may also find useful collaborators, particularly when they need academic scrutiny of an engineering-training programme. However, I would not choose EDUCON primarily to compare commercial classroom platforms. Its return is research feedback and institutional exchange rather than a crowded supplier floor.
3. MoStart 2027: connect teachers, technologists and researchers
21–23 APRIL 2027 | UNIVERSITY OF MOSTAR CAMPUS, MOSTAR, BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
MoStart deliberately separates its programme into an education day, an IT day and a science day. The education programme uses workshops to strengthen the capabilities of primary and secondary school participants, while the research programme reaches intelligent teaching systems, augmented reality, educational robotics and AI applications.
I like that structure for teachers and school technologists who want practical exposure without losing the research context. Teacher educators and university researchers can use the three days in the opposite direction: start with classroom constraints, then test whether a proposed system respects them.
MoStart is also the most useful bridge event in this shortlist. It is broader and more practice-oriented than NORMA, but less suited than EdTech Congress to a large-scale vendor comparison. Inspect the final programme and session language before booking, then choose the day or combination that fits your work.

4. NORMA 2027: ask what AI does to mathematical reasoning
8–11 JUNE 2027 | TALLINN UNIVERSITY, ESTONIA
NORMA is the most specialised event here. The Nordic Mathematics Education Conference will examine trade-offs between human and machine intelligence, including adaptive learning, intelligent tutoring, automated feedback, generative models and the continued role of teacher expertise.
Mathematics education researchers, teacher educators and doctoral students should put it ahead of a general AI conference. The useful question is not whether a model can produce the right answer, but whether its presence changes how students construct an argument, recognise an error or decide which method to use.
NORMA limits attendance and emphasises interaction, with English-language presentations and formats ranging from papers and symposia to posters and working groups. I would arrive with one classroom observation or assessment problem you can discuss in detail; this is a community for examining pedagogy, not shopping for a generic AI stack.
Four conferences, four different decisions
Choose Barcelona when you are responsible for implementation, procurement or an EdTech product. Choose EDUCON when your priority is engineering-education research, publication or collaboration between universities and industry.
Choose MoStart when you need teachers, technology and research in the same trip. Choose NORMA when your work is specifically about mathematics, reasoning, feedback or the balance between automation and teacher judgment.
If your brief is broader than education, compare these specialist meetings with my guide to the top AI events in Europe for 2027. A larger AI event may offer more models and vendors, but it will rarely give educational practice the same attention.

Which AI in education conference belongs on your calendar?
School leaders and education-technology buyers should start with EdTech Congress, while classroom teachers and school-technology coordinators should compare Barcelona with MoStart. The former offers a stronger market view; the latter gives practice and research more equal space.
Engineering faculty should prioritise EDUCON, and mathematics education researchers should choose NORMA. PhD students should attend the conference whose review community can improve their actual study, not the event with the broadest AI label.
If travel funding is the constraint, use my guide to AI conference travel grants for 2027 before assuming the trip is impossible. Check eligibility, payment timing and which costs are excluded before you submit an abstract or commit to registration.
Did you not find the event you were looking for?
Decide whether you need a supplier, research criticism, a classroom method or a specialist community. Then verify the latest programme, registration conditions and event dates with the organiser before you book.
